Flight I is the first of two - they are a visual description of the flight of a pair of white egrets, taking flight from their water home. The stillness of the early morning landscape was silently broken, when these two birds emerged suddenly from their hiding place, it was just incredible. I do not know what startled them, I hope it wasn't me! It was one of those moments you just don't forget. I think when you have an encounter with a wild creature it seems to leave a lasting impression - it's something that I know I will never forget. Both paintings are rendered in oil paint using multiple glazing techniques to build up the layers of transparent colour that you can see on the canvas. The richness of the pigments glow when applied in this way.
