I initially created this as a tiny little 15 x 15 cm canvas one afternoon. It kept stalking me from then on every time I walked past it. I decided it needed to be done as a big proper piece, and while they're very similar, they're not identical, consider them the fraternal twins of mandarin paintings.
As I was painting this piece, I just couldn't come up with the name, but this piece kept stalking me! One night when the piece was almost complete, I realised what it stood for, what it was: Joy! This little piece symbolises joy to me. I realised too that's why the name was so elusive in coming forth. I have had plenty of happiness in life, but that gift of Joy is still elusive. I find that happiness is great, but it's based on external happenings. Either an event, or a person, something that happens and it makes you happy. Consequently happiness is described as fleeting, and I believe it's because the external thing that causes the happiness is fleeting. By it's very externally reliant
