I love watching the waves wash onto the rocky shoreline at Trigg Beach (near to where I live), and the wonderful patterns the water makes as it mingles and swirls around the rocks on the shoreline. I tried to capture this in the design of my painting, creating wonderful textures with the liquid acrylic paint that beautifully mimics what I see in nature. The photo doesn't do justice to the depth of this painting.
The canvas was stretched over a cradled hardboard, which provides the perfect stable subtrate for this type of liquid acrylic art. I painted the sides white, to throw all attention to the front of the painting, helping to make it 'pop'!
I haven't varnished this painting, as I love the mixture of gloss and matt paints, which varnish would even out and disguise. The paint has been applied very thickly, so varnish isn't necessary. The thick paint has created great surface texture, almost 3D in places.
