Tribute to James Gleeson's painting "Journey to the edge of night". Gleeson was a huge influence on me; those swirling realms of forms, simultaneously everything and nothing. Not-quite-creatures depicted in not-quite-landscapes. Battlegrounds of shape, colour and texture. Looking closely at nature I can see echoes of Gleeson's work: lichen colonisng rocks, layers of bark peeling off trees revealing new patterns .
This painting is produced from one of my many tree bark photographs. I'm constantly hunting for new and interesting Australian natives to explore further in painting.
