    Shannon Sproule
After studying design (product design) my career digressed into scientific glassblowing for sixteen years. However, with the steady decline of Australian manufacturing, the industry has moved overseas and I find myself returning to my roots in art and design. I have some part-time work currently and I am looking to establish my art career.

      • Nature is the starting point for my art, particularity Australian nature. The contrasting beauty and the under-appreciated darkness, or what I call "gothic" elements of the Australian continent. The strangeness of the land as it appears to my European eyes is something I've felt since a child and, if anything, has only grown stronger with age. I feel that painting Australia in a traditional landscape doesn't work; one has to get on the ground, pick up and study seed pods and the tortured strips of bark that peel off gum trees. The strange coarseness of the bush is to me at once darkly unsettling and also very beautiful. If I can manage to capture this conflict in my work I feel that I've succeeded.
