I carefully look at my surroundings, which is reflected in my work. I also like using abstract designs that can lead to surprising results. I am amazed by what I can achieve by keeping things simple using very few colours to produce unusual and beautiful images.

Witkacy - Polish artist

Tell us about your studio. Location, clean, cluttered, big, small, etc?

I work from my home. I don't have a specific designated area for painting. It depends on how I feel on a day. I am very messy when I create my art I get paint on everything even on my dog. My friends know when I paint, because I have paint even in my hair.

Do you have any pre-work ritual that puts you in the right mindset to create art?

I decide more or less on a whim.

I prefer to work with music; usually I have Jazz radio on.

Dark green.

I enjoy travelling and learning new foreign languages.

Are there specific messages within your work?

Forms have a certain weight that depends on the texture, the colour and those influences the movement of the artwork itself. My aim is to evoke emotional response...

What excites and inspires you as an artist?

The best way for me is to experiment and see what it brings. My intuition tells me what to paint. I am self-taught and feel this shows in my spontaneity.

What do you enjoy most about painting?

Painting makes me happy and relaxed.

How do you know when an artwork is completed?

I have a sudden feeling that the artwork is completed; it is hard to explain this emotion.
