Plamenka Whitburn
Born 22 June 1971 Varna, Bulgaria

In 1995 I graduated Hotel and Restaurant Management in Varna, Bulgaria. For number of years, I worked in hospitality industry in Dubai before I moved to Western Australia.
I am self –taught artist. Started with mosaics years ago, using stone, glass, beads, fossils and found objects in my art. Since then, I have discovered my love for oils. Mostly I employ bold and bright colours into my paintings with lots of texture.
Nature and people from different cultures inspire me, as well, as my home country of Bulgaria. The city I was born - Varna is on Black Sea. That itself is a whole “sea” of inspiration, with its people, fishermen, tourists, sea port, sea gardens and the it’s 1300 years of ancient history .
I love experimenting with seemingly unmixable mediums all the time. For the last couple of years, I am working with copper, stainless steel, and brass ultra-fine mesh. The delicacy and transparency of this medium is simply amazing. The way it reflects the light and the endless possibilities to create almost 3 D installations had captivated my attention. Working with clay is another medium I am interested and currently using for creating mini sculptures.
The last 5 and a half years I lived and worked in beautiful island of Penang, Malaysia. Recently I returned to Western Australia.
Collectors of my artwork are from WA, Malaysia, Philippines, Bulgaria.
